In an area which lacked power, clean water, and most importantly, teachers or supplies for the local government school, HEED began an educational initiative in a borrowed building in 2007. We provide education to the orphaned and most vulnerable children first, regardless of the ability to pay fees. The community has gratefully embraced the school and has formed a local PTA association to work in tandem with us. The school population has grown to 360 students, and in 2012 it is estimated that over 500 students will want to attend.

• Dreaming of a permanent home for the school one day, we purchased eight acres of land in 2009. We have been farming the land to provide food and income for the school.
• We are partnering with Uganda Christian Outreach Ministries who began a church plant on our land in 2010. We now work beside a loving, visionary pastor in the school and community.
• In 2011, we installed a borehole for clean, consistent water for the school and community. In the dry season sometimes villagers had to walk 5 miles to gather water from open, stagnant ponds.
• We have introduced a small scale solar power project, and now there is even limited internet access for the staff to stay in contact with us from the village.
• Late in 2011, we began to construct our first permanent school buildings, and christened them with a medical outreach and crusade with our partner church. (photos on the galleries tab.) The primary grades will be able to move to the new classes in 2012, but the preschool will have to stay at the temporary site until more classes can be built. We have faith for the additional 4 classrooms, administration office, kitchen, dining hall, and teacher’s houses.
